The path by the river just before Cotterdale hamlet has been mended sometime in the last eighteen months, (see walk 19 in “Hillwalks from the Setttle to Carlisle Railway Stations”), so you are now in no danger of drowning. There were a few sheep in the Abbotside conservation area when we visited last week, hopefully naughty, not regulated ones. The birdlife in June is mainly Golden Plover with their single odd note: didn’t see any birds of prey. Some baby partridges down by Yoredale Farm though. Visiting Hell Gill Force makes a worthy diversion, adding about half an hour as a there and back, and finally, the food in the Moorcock is really quite good!
